Reflective Essay

I have a master’s degree in Communication that I acquired in May 2014. It was not my intention to seek another master's degree. I hoped to further my studies someday to include doctoral work. That is not how life happens. It’s okay to make a plan, but also okay to amend that plan, and wander down newly discovered paths to see where the trails may take you.

In the late summer of 2016, I went on the Dominican University website to see if the university was hiring for adjunct professors. I was unaware that Dominican had an MLIS program, and I thought to myself, I wish I had known this three years ago! I lived in another area of the city at the time of my first masters, and I was a stay at home mom raising a small son. We had since moved, I had graduated, and I was looking for part-time work. Dominican University, now closer to my new home, would have been the perfect place to ease back into the professional world. There was just one problem. Dominican University was not looking for adjunct professors with master’s degrees in communication.
